USE POLICY

Introduction:

Fair use is a massive part of the Project Animatis website, letting people write stories beyond their wildest dreams. For each aspect, we’ve concocted a set of policies regarding their use, explaining the different ways in which Project Animatis properties can be used.

Before we begin though, a few General Tips:

  • References are always allowed without attributions or agreements

  • Golden Rule: When in doubt, ask for permission before using something

  • Attribution is mostly required for media outside of the site

In this policy set, we will be talking about six elements:

  • Images

  • Symbols

  • Locations

  • Toons/Agents/Creatures

  • Missions/Tales/LRs/SRs

  • Project Animatis(the agency)

Using Images with Stories:

As an organization built on creativity, we strongly recommend using your own images. However, images provided by other community members, public domain images and those under the Creative Commons License are also allowed on the site. The reason for this is to prevent massive legal issues from banning the use of images on the website. In all cases, aim to give credit to the creator.

The following list of types of images are allowed to be used on the site:

  • Those licensed under Creative Commons SA and BY

  • Your own images

  • Images provided by other community members

  • Public Domain Images

This list, however, are those types of images that are not allowed on the site

  • Anything you can’t find a license for

  • Creative Commons NC(Non Commercial)

  • ND(No Derivatives)

  • GNU GPL

In order to use a copyrighted image, you will need to contact the creator of that image and obtain permission. This will not be done for you. Once permission is granted, it should be retained on the Concepts threat for an article for future reference.

How to Attribute:

  1. Show the title and creator of the Image

  2. Link to his/her website/account on page where the image is found

Manipulating Pictures

For the legal safety of the project, you may not crop, edit, or manipulate a found image. If it’s discovered that a watermark or identification has been edited from an image, that image will be deleted and an unaltered one will replace it.

However, you may always edit or manipulate your own work. If permission is granted by the creator, then you may even do the same to copyrighted pieces. In the case of normal usage, the evidence must be preserved for posterity

Reporting Images

If there is an image on the site which should not be here, please report it to the staff as soon as possible, even if you simply want attribution instead of removal.

If you are the creator of a picture that you would like to be removed from the website, please include contact information and links to the original source for verification. We will make every attempt to work in good faith with you.

One Last Note:

The following types of images are not allowed on the website regardless of licensing standards:

  • Pornography

  • Gore

  • Insulting stereotypes

Symbols:

All symbols on the “Symbols” page here on the site, are allowed to be used without attribution anywhere on the site. However, outside the site, every symbol used requires attribution for works outside of this website’s databases.

Attribution for Symbols should show the following information:

  • Symbol Name

  • Project Animatis website link

Locations:

Similarly, locations in Project Animatis and/or the ToonVerse are allowed to be used anywhere without attribution on the website. However, proper attribution is required if ToonVerse locations are used on other properties that exist outside the website.

  • Location Name

  • Creator’s Name

  • Link to the creator’s page on Project Animatis

Toons/Agents/Creatures:

False IDs are not mentioned in this category simply due to the fact that they are the false identities of toons and do not exist as their own entities. In conclusion, the information below regarding toons, also applies to those under False IDs.

Toons:

In regards to their acceptance levels, all toons may be used in tales on the site, so long as all creative parties agree to their use. However, only toons with an acceptance level of 2 or higher may be used in Missions. This is strictly due to the fact that toons with acceptance levels of 2 or higher are allowed to be used as official Project Animatis material, or material used to promote the project or serve as major plot points in the Project Animatis Canon. With this being said, only toons with acceptance levels of 2 or higher may be used in other forms of media outside the site, so long as both creative parties agree to the use and proper attribution is given to both Project Animatis and the creator of the aforementioned toon. References, however, require no attribution in any form of onsite or offsite media.

Agents:

In the same case, agents may be used outside of the website, so long as both creative parties agree to the use and proper attribution is given to both Project Animatis and the creator of the agent. All agents are allowed to be used in tales and missions on the website, so long as both parties agree to the agent’s use. References, however, require no attribution in any form of onsite or offsite media.

Creatures:

In this policy set, creatures are split into the following two categories:

  1. The Individuals

  • Individuals are creatures that are one of a kind, or those that exist as animal allies(Examples include Mayhem from ROTTMNT and Toothless from HTTYD)

  1. The Groups

  • Groups are creatures that exist in a spectrum of breeds/species(Examples of this are dragons, and pegasi)

The Individuals:

All individual type creatures are allowed to be used in tales and missions, so long as both parties agree to its use. Outside of the site, however, proper attribution is required. In the case of references, though, require no attribution in any form of onsite or offsite media.

The Groups:

The groups operate slightly differently, as there are two variants of group creatures

   1. Generalized Species

         - Generalized species include the general tropes and variants of creatures that are not specifically connected to any toon or story and can live anywhere within the ToonVerse(Examples include dragons, pegasi and griffins)

  1. Tailored Species

  • Tailored species include those specifically made for a certain toon or story( Examples include: Flying Bison from ATLA and the Behemoths from Dauntless)

Generalized Species:

Generalized species require no attribution or agreement in either case and can be used anywhere be it onsite or off.

Tailored Species:

Tailored Species can be used in any mission, or tale on the site, as long as both parties agree to it. Outside of the website, however, proper attribution is required and both parties must agree to their use.

Attribution for Toons, Agents and Creatures should show the following information:

  • Name of Toon/Agent/Creature

  • Creator’s Name

  • Link to the creator’s page on Project Animatis

  • Project Animatis website link

Missions/Tales/LRs/SRs:

Using Missions,Tales, Lab Reports and Scout Reports is allowed, so long as both parties agree to it. Offsite use requires proper attribution and an agreement between both parties. References to tales and Missions are always allowed.

Attribution for Missions/Tales should show the following information:

  • Name of Mission/Tale/SR/LR

  • Creator’s Name

  • Link to the creator’s page on Project Animatis

  • Project Animatis Website Link

Project Animatis(the Agency):

Use of the agency is always allowed without attributions and/or agreements on the site. However, offsite use requires proper attribution by providing a link to our website and social media pages.
