Mischief

Holly Fouche

JUL. 20, 2020

When Aria's bored, anything can happen. It's too bad her agent partner, Fredrick has to deal with the brunt of it.

“Are you sure you want to do this again?” Miko asked, looking at Fredrick. “Especially since you two are working together now?”
“I don’t care,” I grinned. “Life’s not worth living without having a little fun.”
Sneaking towards the radio headed man, I smirked, turning myself invisible. Snaking my hands around his neck, I untied his silk black tie, swiftly pulling off his neck and strolling off with it.
“I don’t know how you do it, Aria,” Miko said. “But you never cease to surprise me.”
“Well hey, it comes with four years of pickpocketing experience,” I said. “Well, that and a superpower.”
“Aria,” Frederick yelled. “Give me back my tie this instant!”
“Welp, gotta run,” I said. “Literally in this case.”
I sped off, letting out a chuckle as I heard Fredrick chase after me.
“Aria, get back here this moment!” Frederick screamed.
I zipped down the hallway, heart pounding as I heard the radio headed man yell my name. A sea of laughter formed around me as other agents started to take notice, giggling as I held Fredrick’s tie in the air like a flag.
Laughing my head off, I kept running, saying, “Catch me if you can, old man!”
Frederick was always the serious guy, never laughing at anyone’s jokes and always bossing people around. Everyone on the job, respected him for it, given that our job was pretty much serious business. But every once in a while, I’d get annoyed with his serious schtick and do something just to lighten the mood a bit. Whether it was pulling an elaborate prank or simply stealing his tie, I would always be the one to lift everyone’s spirits up with a little mischief.
My heart raced as he started to catch up to me, breath leaving me as I made a sharp turn. I’m not giving up just yet. Catching my breath, I heard his footsteps in the distance, realizing he wasn’t too far away. I turned invisible, bolting towards my room as I raced past Fredrick. Trying not to laugh, I hid Fredrick’s tie in my hoodie, refusing to look back. That should buy me a bit of time.
I let out a chuckle, spotting my room within a few feet. Yes! Slipping into my room, I shut the door, locking it and closing all the windows. I treaded lightly, knowing Fredrick could teleport to anywhere with noise. Taking off my shoes, I softly placed them in a corner, walking towards my bed. Hopefully, no one will tell him I’m in here. But then, my phone rang, blasting my favorite song as a ringtone. No!
“Thought you could hide from me, Aria?” Frederick asked, towering over me.
“Well, I did succeed for a minute, didn’t I?” I teased.
Frederick groaned, walking towards me.
“Why do you persist in making my life miserable?”
“Do you want the serious truth or the fun truth?”
He didn’t respond, giving me what felt like a glare.
“Fine, I’ll give you both. For the serious truth, you’re always serious, and that gets really annoying after a while. As for the fun truth, pranking people who refuse to have fun is hilarious and everyone gets a pretty sweet deal out of disrupting your order. All the agents, including me, get a laugh, while you get a free workout.”
I tossed him his tie back, watching him put it back around his neck.
“Okay, for the record, I’m not always serious. I just focus on what needs to get done.”
“Dude, you never laugh at anything, not even when Evan cracks jokes!”
“What’s your point exactly?”
Frederick adjusted his collar, looking in my mirror and inspecting his head.
“Everyone laughs at Evan’s jokes! And plus, you don’t even take a rest during your lunch break.”
Sitting on my bed, I rested, hoping Frederick would go away soon.
“I prioritize my work over my entertainment, in hopes we’ll be able to rebuild the Toonverse faster, and as an agent of Project Animatis, I would’ve presumed you’d share the same goal.”
My blood boiled as he spoke, recognizing his formal speech as a form of bluffing.
“Don’t start talking formally to me! I know it’s just fluff to cover up for the fact that you’re boring.”
“Pardon?”
I growled, annoyance filling my mind.
“You heard me! You are boring, as bland as bread, as entertaining as watching paint dry! You are the most monotonous, mundane, and most uninteresting person I have ever met!”
Frederick turned around, silence surrounding us as he looked at me.
“Is that what you think of me?” Frederick chuckled.
I put my hands on my head, feeling myself lose it.
“Yes! Of course it is! What else would I think of you?! You’re not funny! Heck, that was the first time I even heard you laugh! I should be clapping for you right now!”
Frederick laughed, rolling his sleeves up. What the heck is he planning?
“You know, all those things you said weren’t that nice,” Frederick said, an aura of cockiness in his voice. “In fact, some of them managed to hurt my feelings.”
“Oh, don’t start treating me like a little kid,” I said. “The last thing I need is for you to see me as the daughter you never had or something. Plus, the only feeling you seem to have is serious. Well, that and anger.”
“Are you sure about that?” Frederick said.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” I replied.
Frederick let out a sigh, saying, “I can’t believe I’m doing this, but--”
He turned a dial on the right side of his head, his voice being replaced by the song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua. A bright light swept around Frederick, turning his black and white suit into a pink and white one.
My eyes widened as Frederick embraced the song, grabbing my hairbrush and pretending to sing into a microphone. What the heck? I watched, mind racing with questions as I giggled like a little kid. Bopping my head to the beat, I laughed, hearing the song get louder as Frederick swayed his hips to the beat. Tears dripped down my face as I gripped my sides, cackling like a hyena as he kept dancing. Oh my gosh! This is too much! Grabbing my phone, I recorded his dancing, keeping my laughter down. But then, the song ended.
“I hope you’re not planning to show that to anyone,” Frederick said.
Turning around, I spotted Frederick back in his normal outfit. I jumped, hiding my phone behind my back.
“No,” I replied, crossing my fingers behind my back. “Of course not. But I must admit, that was quite the show you put on.”
Frederick groaned, making me let out a laugh.
“You better not post that video. Because if you do, I will get my revenge.”
Keeping a hand behind my back, I put my other hand up in defense.
“Don’t worry! I won’t,” I said.
Frederick sighed, “And don’t tell anyone about this either.”
I grinned, watching him walk towards the door.
“Why not?”
Frederick opened the door, leaving me in my place.
“Tell anyone and I will find out,” Frederick said.
“Don’t worry,” I said. “It’ll be our little secret.”
I flashed him an innocent smile, seeing him close the door.
Grinning, I pulled my phone from behind my back. Alright. Time to cause more trouble.
Turning on Buzzgram, I posted the video, giggling as I watched it load.
