Criticism Policy

Rules Regarding Critique:

    1. Bullying is not critique. Do not criticize the author, only their work.

        - Examples of accepted critique include, “Your main idea is spot on. However, x, y, and z need more work.”

        - Examples of what not to say include, “You’re a bad writer.”

        - Suggestions are allowed so long as they are constructive

    2. Your posts must contain content.

       - All critique posts on this site must contain some form of information. Any form of spam on the site will be deleted.

TL;DR: To quote SCP Foundation’s rules and policies “Be helpful, civil and open-minded”

 Guidelines on Critique:

     1. Good criticism is always helpful

          - Good criticism assists writers in honing and improving their stories, creating polished products that outshine their older ones. Regardless of the critique is stating what the author should improve, or compliment on their strengths

          - It is best to provide a guide as to how you believe the author can improve their work, whether it be tales or missions.

     2. Sugarcoating can lead to dangerous results

          - It is always better to be harsh and honest, than to be nice and deceitful. Sugarcoating can make authors believe their writing is better than it actually is, hurting them as writers in the long run.

          - However, being “harsh” does not give anyone the right to be mean and refer to their cruelty as a form of help. Project Animatis as a website is a community, meaning we aim to encourage people to continue creating content and improve our creative skills. Rudeness and discouragement only prevents authors from further enhancing their skills.

     3. Critique on posted stories can be short

         - Agreeing with someone else’s critique or posting a short but meaningful joke is allowed(so long as it is not spam or content free).

         - When in doubt of length, post something more in-depth

         - If there’s nothing to be said, then don’t say anything at all.

    4. Don’t Bandwagon

         - If a story already has posts pointing out its flaws, there is no need to join everyone else and criticize. Post only if you have something new to contribute.

    5. Be open minded

         - It is best to try to respect stylistic choices, as they are what set stories apart from one another. As a community, we strive to encourage people to be courageous and try new things. Part of Project Animatis’ mission is to inspire. While a lot of this goal applies to the agents, it also applies to the community as well.
